About Samantha Sykes

“When I need to feel like things are under control, Sam is the first person I call.”

That is something Samantha, or Sam, hears a lot. This comment also pops up frequently, unsolicited from both clients and family: “She went over and above the call of duty. She got the job done, with a smile. I only realized afterward that most advisors couldn’t – and wouldn’t – do what Sam did for me.”

Testimonials like these are important in describing Samantha’s journey to becoming a Senior Investment Advisor at Raymond James, particularly as she doesn’t enjoy talking about herself.

She loves to help, and when she sees a problem, she can’t wait to fix it or find someone that can.

Samantha believes there is nothing better in the world than helping someone achieve their goals, no matter how big or small. It is what drives her every day, outweighing work and personal time. Her clients, who describe her as enthusiastic and deeply curious about their lives, relate to Sam’s motto: Whenever something happens involving money and life, we want to be your first call.

Samantha works tirelessly, leading the Sykes Wealth Management team to raise the bar for personalized and professional client service. Wealth management involving businesses, families and people is the core service we provide, but what we do goes far beyond money. Whether it’s helping creative talent (actors, athletes, artists) to thrive financially, being a financial intermediary for elderly parents and adult children to navigate tricky conversations, or helping the divorced, separated, and widowed to find their financial footing with confidence, we help people with a range of investment-related issues. But it always comes back to wealth and money.

Samantha believes that the best client-advisor relationships grow from candidness, trust and collaboration with partners (whether they be family, colleagues, professional or otherwise) who work together toward a common goal. Seeking long-term connections with all clients, Sam feels deeply that, like a bottle of fine wine or her mother’s famous stews, the best client-advisor relationships are not something that can be rushed. All great things come with time, good conversation and mutual fit.

With a BA in Economics & Math from the University of Toronto, Samantha has been in wealth management since 2005. She was born and raised in Winnipeg. Her expertise is continuously recognized in top industry and mainstream media, such as The Globe & Mail, Canadian Family Offices Magazine, Toronto Star, National Post, The Canadian Press, MoneySense and Forbes.

Samantha currently serves as a board member of the Concussion Legacy Foundation of Canada, board member for the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation, and on OCAD University’s Board of Governors and Investment Committee. She enjoys spending time with her husband and young children, long-distance running and reminiscing fondly about the time when she went to chef school.
